Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien was a troubled character that was universally known as Dusty Springfield. The soulful blonde English singer struggled like so many of her peers and predecessors with drugs and addictions. She was of course also bisexual, and had a partner in Norma Tanega with whom she wrote and recorded several songs.

Dusty was a door-opener, in many ways. She was one of the biggest forces in white soul in England, and inspired singers like Amy Winehouse and Adele later on. She died in 1999, just 59 years old.
